Tammany Trace manners
Thirty-one miles of bikes, joggers, strollers and other dogs on a path with defined edges. We build loose-leash walking and calm passing at home first, then coach you through real Trace sessions at your dog's pace.
Mandeville, Covington, Slidell and every town between — Northshore families train with us over live 1:1 video, with lessons that fit around Causeway commutes and big-yard life.
Virtual, Not Distant
Life on the Northshore is what a lot of dogs dream about: bigger yards, the Tammany Trace running past three towns, the lakefront breeze in Mandeville. It also comes with a specific set of training challenges — deer at the tree line, bikes streaming down the Trace, and a Causeway commute that eats the daylight a dog trainer's schedule would need.
Which is why our lessons come to your screen instead. Every Leash & Teach session is live, one-on-one video with a professional educator, taught in your actual house and yard in Mandeville, Covington, Slidell, Madisonville, Abita Springs or anywhere else in St. Tammany. Evening lesson after the bridge? That's normal here.
Our instructors are former PK–12 educators, so the teaching is structured, patient and honest — skills broken into steps, homework that fits your week, and progress you can measure on your next walk down the Trace.

Deer, squirrels, rabbits and the occasional armadillo make Northshore yards a permanent temptation. We rebuild recall in layers — house, yard, long-line — until “come” beats the tree line.
When the Causeway owns your daylight, a drive to a training facility isn't happening. Virtual lessons run evenings and weekends, and ten-minute homework slots do the rest.
Slidell families know the drill. A dog who crates calmly and travels easily turns evacuation from a crisis into a road trip — and both are trainable skills we build in.
Field Trips
The Northshore might have the best outdoor classroom in Louisiana. Your teacher helps you decide when your dog is ready for each — sequencing is everything.
The spine of the Northshore, from Covington through Abita Springs and Mandeville toward Slidell. Predictable traffic and long sightlines make it the perfect graduated leash-skills course.
Open green space, water birds and a steady breeze off the Pontchartrain — great for settle practice and calm observation on busy weekends.
River access and shaded paths downtown — an easy early outing before bigger crowds, with coffee shops nearby to test patio manners.
Bayou-side walking paths and event lawns on the east side — a solid mid-level proofing trip once the basics are steady.
Leashed dogs are welcome in the day-use areas (check current rules) — trails, lakefront and enough novelty to make it a proper final exam.

No — Leash & Teach is 100% virtual everywhere, on purpose. Your dog's real tests are your fence line, your front door and the Trace on a Saturday morning, so that's where we teach: live 1:1 video lessons with a professional educator, in the environment where the skills have to hold.
The first session is free — a real mini lesson with your teacher, not a sales pitch. Pet Dog Prep, our core obedience program for dogs 6 months and up, typically runs $650 to $2,100 depending on length (1 to 10 months). Puppy Preschool is custom-quoted after your free consultation; PhD Pups is $500 flat.
Mandeville, Covington, Slidell, Madisonville, Abita Springs, Lacombe, Folsom, Pearl River — all of St. Tammany — plus Ponchatoula and Hammond next door. Virtual lessons make the whole Northshore one service area.
This is the Northshore special, and yes. We rebuild the walk at home first — loose-leash mechanics, an attention cue that actually competes with the environment — then coach calm bike-and-jogger passing at distances your dog can handle, closing the gap session by session.
Recall against wildlife is advanced work, but it's absolutely trainable. We layer it: flawless indoor recall, then yard with a long line, then controlled distraction, raising the stakes only as your dog succeeds. Honest expectations included — and a long line is your best friend until the work is done.
That's precisely why Northshore families pick us. Sessions schedule around your real week — evenings and weekends included — and there's no drive tacked onto either end. Your teacher is on screen at 7pm; your dog is already home.
