Parade & brass-band nerves
Mardi Gras, second lines, Fourth of July over the river — this city is loud on a schedule and loud at random. We build gradual sound-conditioning plans so celebration season stops meaning six weeks of a trembling dog.
Shotgun-house doorways, second lines two blocks over, sidewalks barely wide enough for one dog to pass another — New Orleans asks a lot of its dogs. We teach yours right where all of it happens.
Virtual, Not Distant
A dog trainer in New Orleans has to account for things no generic training plan covers: brass bands that materialize out of nowhere, six solid weeks of Carnival, stoops that open straight onto the sidewalk, and streets where two leashed dogs meeting means somebody's stepping into the gutter. Your dog doesn't live in a quiet training room — they live here.
That's exactly why our lessons happen at your place, over live one-on-one video. Your teacher sees your actual hallway, your actual front door on your actual block, and guides you in real time as you train the dog in front of you. The skills are built where they'll be used, so they hold up when the tuba section comes around the corner.
Every Leash & Teach instructor is a former PK–12 educator — teaching people is our first profession, and it's why our results stick. We're a 504 phone call away, and your classroom is your living room.

Mardi Gras, second lines, Fourth of July over the river — this city is loud on a schedule and loud at random. We build gradual sound-conditioning plans so celebration season stops meaning six weeks of a trembling dog.
When there's no room to arc around an oncoming dog, your dog needs rock-solid attention and calm passing skills. We teach them at home, then coach you through your actual block's pinch points.
In a shotgun house, the front door opens onto the world. We turn thresholds into an automatic wait — one of the most genuinely life-saving skills a city dog can have.
A dog who loads calmly into a car and settles in a crate makes evacuation week radically easier. It's unglamorous training that every New Orleans dog should have, and it's built into how we teach crate skills.
Field Trips
New Orleans is a graduate-level city for dogs — which makes it a spectacular place to proof skills once the foundations are in. Your teacher will help you pick the right outing at the right time.
The Marigny–Bywater riverfront: wide paths, river breeze and enough foot traffic to practice calm passing with room to retreat.
The Uptown classic. The main loop is busy practice; the Fly's open fields along the river are perfect for long-line recall work.
City Park's membership dog park. Best saved for social, well-practiced dogs — and great for outside-the-fence observation sessions before that.
A straight, predictable corridor from Mid-City toward the Quarter — bikes and joggers at steady intervals make it a natural leash-skills classroom.

No facility anywhere — Leash & Teach is fully virtual by design. New Orleans behavior problems are gloriously specific to New Orleans: your stoop, your block, your parade route. Live 1:1 video lessons let a professional educator teach you right there, in the environment your dog actually has to master.
Start with a free mini training session — a genuine lesson with your teacher, no card required. Pet Dog Prep, our core program for dogs 6 months and older, typically runs $650 to $2,100 depending on length (1 to 10 months). Puppy Preschool is custom-quoted after the free consultation, and PhD Pups is $500 flat.
Very often, yes. Parade panic is a conditioned emotional response, and it responds to patient counter-conditioning — recorded sounds at low volume, distance work, calm routines — long before the real thing rolls. Starting in summer or fall gives you months of runway before Carnival.
All of it — Jefferson, St. Bernard, the Westbank, the lakefront and everywhere in between. Virtual training means the Huey P. is never between you and your lesson.
Absolutely — small-space living is a training advantage, not a limitation. Settle-on-a-mat, threshold manners, polite greetings and brain-tiring enrichment all matter more in a shotgun than in a suburban yard, and every one of them is taught right in your space.
Leash reactivity is one of our specialties, and dense city blocks are where it shows up worst. We work through management first — so walks stop being rehearsals for the behavior — then structured behavior modification at your dog's pace, all through our reactive dog training approach.
